Guest Warning: using your GPS or internet mapping program will give what looks like the shortest route but is over a winding mountain road and is not an easy drive. It's also no shorter in time than the route given below. The best route to take from SMF is as follows:
- Head north on Airport Blvd 2.0 mi
- Merge onto I-5 S via the ramp to Yuba City/Sacramento 5.8 mi
- Take exit 522 to merge onto I-80 W toward San Francisco 4.3 mi
- Take the exit onto I-80 W toward San Francisco 42.7 mi
Exit onto CA-12/Jameson Canyon Rd toward Napa/Sonoma 6.3 mi
- Turn right at CA-12 W/CA-29 N 4.0 mi
Follow CA-29 up to Calistoga (26.7 mi)
If you want to use your GPS or internet mapping program, then set it using two routes. First route from SMF to Vacaville, and the second route from Vacaville to Calistoga.
